I’m not that late-stage in my family life yet, but having been in crypto early-ish, I share the sentiment.
For me, the corruption started when Bitcoin was captured around 2016, at the time of the civil war and SegWit. The mentality shifted from “plentiful cyberpunk e-cash” to “scarce digital gold”, a toxic hoarding mentality imposed through censorship and alienation.
Then the brazen casino prevailed after that — the shitcoin ICOs, the rugs, the hacks, the NFT wash trading, the gambling memecoins, the incessant grifting that somehow found its way even to the White House itself. I don’t see anything other than a nihilistic PvP arena now, with very low and short-term expectations from everyone entering it.
I’m only still in it because I have some faith left in the Ethereum project and its values, but I’m not enjoying the space (nor am I excited or bullish about it) like I once was. 0 reply
