The fall of the Republic in 1789 at the hands of Napoleon,marked the end of the long independence of Venice and the abolition of the many traditions of the Venetian Carnival for two centuries.Modern celebration of Carnival was reintroduced in 1979 and has reinvigorated the art and craft of making Venetian masks.
