if you loved the tv show Halt and Catch Fire, i think you'll love Masters of Doom. it tells the story of John Carmack and John Romero; how they got together to create Doom and Quake, revolutionizing the videogame industry in the process, and how they eventually had a falling out. i couldn't let it down.

also check out "the soul of a new machine" by Tracy Kidder. it was required reading for my CS program and (early) halt and catch fire reminded me so much of the vibes from that book
