Some of the inspiration for the https://www.respairproject.xyz/ came from the lessons we learnt when working in Open Philanthropy. We saw the frictions first hand when good people had to jump through artificially imposed hoops, created by 'accountability systems'. 1/

We know that marginalisation is often a result of the systems we created and the systems we uphold. 'Open' is a great step in thinking differently, but it is not enough, we need to change systems at their core. 2/

Briefly we learnt: 1. Disrupting is instant, building takes time. 2. Change is driven by people, not entities. 3. Learnings only become building blocks when they are shared. 4. Risks are everywhere, being open about them helps. 5. Sharing power gets to more effective contextual solutions. 3/

6. Progress is the ultimate measure of success. 7. Cohesion and aligning is more important than collaboration. 8. Think local, act local, having global scale as a goal waters down impact. 9. Open is a shortcut to trust, allowing others to see in helps us all move faster. 10. Change is a continuum. 4/
