I understand the intellectual appeal of flatcoins But I don't understand who the customer is? If you are worried about inflation, there are plenty of inflation-resistant assets you can buy, the most obvious of which is TIPS My rough intuition is that ~75-85% of the people in the world *want* USD

I think the biggest argument for flatcoins over TIPS would be that you'd be able to seamlessly spend flatcoins, like spending USD today. Also, TIPS have fixed maturity terms (to my knowledge). Question: why do you (or the ~80% of people in the world) want USD? And, would a functioning flatcoin not be better?

USD is generally the best money in the world as its easy to spend (accepted globally), and relative to other fiat currencies has historically performed well as a store of value. But, if presented with a unit of account thats a BETTER store of value and also a strong medium of exchange, why not use it instead of USD?
