I think it's worth mentioning that the painfully difficult part is building an L1 for the hard times. Building for the good times is A LOT easier, as we've seen, not just with L2s but also with the dozens of alt L1s that keep sprouting every cycle with few differentiators.

Since then he seems to have been backpedaling on things. But honestly, a researcher being snarky or an asshole during a technical conversation isn't the main issue here, I am more highlighting the above to show that this isn't just me or others coming out with these statements
