Fish-eating chickens (herons) can easily digest large fishes due to their specialized digestive system.  When the fish eater swallows the fish, the fish enters the throat from the mouth and then the esophagus.  The bird's esophagus is flexible and stretchable enough to allow large fish to pass through.

 After swallowing, the fish goes into the bird's stomach, which has two parts: the foregut and the muscular stomach.  In the foregut, digestive enzymes are secreted that help break down the fish.  The food then moves to the muscular stomach, which, with the help of its strong walls and muscles, helps break down and digest the food.
