Anyone who’s dealt with ADHD long enough: has it ever gotten easier? I feel like since becoming aware of the symptoms the struggle has only worsened, despite always considering myself decently self-aware. I don’t know if it’s just the compounding responsibilities of work, marriage, parenthood, and adulthood. Or if it’s some weird permanent brain fog from covid. Or a tangible side effect of being plugged into crypto almost 24/7 for three years. Or just a dwindling sense of agency and direction and control of emotions. But it’s been six years now that I’ve seen three therapists, one psychiatrist with a brief round of antidepressants, and tried numerous tools and tricks yet it all feels like it’s falling apart. Where did I go wrong?

I had fully submitted to just taking small doses if adderal for years. And then I decided I wanted to get into shape and I did strict keto and then moved to time restricted eating 8/16. Fasting completely changed my life. My sleep immediately improved and my ability to go to sleep and everything I associated with “adhd” went away. I can focus on one tasks at a time and compartmentalize thoughts easily now. ADHD doesn’t really exist as an actual disease. That’s recently made up to pump people with pills. It’s a genetic variant that many people have and it’s increased by inflammation and inputs that we give our bodies. I didn’t expect fasting to have this effect but I complete erased it for me. It takes a long time to really have an affect and everyone is different genentically, but it’s one data point for you to consider :)

"ADHD doesn't exist and it's a conspiracy theory by Big Pharma to pump people with pills" doesn't make sense. Maybe fasting helps w/ ADHD (even if the symptoms worsen for some people when they don't eat). Doesn't eliminate altered brain's chemistry and the need for medication to correct that imbalance.

Define “altered brain chemistry”. That’s not real. Everyone learns in different ways and has different genetic differences. “ADHD” people were hunters in historical reference and those traits were used for survival. There is no “deficiency” there is only a difference. There is no norm to be deficient from. This was created in the early 90s because you can’t prescribe pills unless there is a disease. Learning environments and diet and most importantly what you choose or are able to do in life are what dictate how well you can focus. Sitting in a closed room for 8 hours a day isn’t a good way for many people to learn for example.

But generally "I beat it and so it's fake" is not a great take... As someone who's taken meds and fasted you should probably back up with data or rephrase

I haven’t beaten anything. I’ve adjusted every part of my life and day to day activities and focus to help adjust to a modern world with how my brain works. Out of those many things fasting and removing sugar and refined carbs helped massively more than anything else. I specifically said it’s a combination of factors and that everyone is different. My point is that SSRIs and amphetamine salts are not the solution. And that there is no norm to be “deficient” from. That was invented as a “disease”. There is no disease to be cured from. Taking pills removes your ability to speak to source/god. Even if it helps you work your job it’s not a solution is a mask. You would be amazed at how major life changes and meditation and diet can change everything <3

I mean, I have tried a dozen different interventions so I know external factors affect ADHD management. Doesn't mean my brain isn't wired different.
