Have you considered a private school for your kids? I've toured a couple schools and everything seems nice and all but part of me is thinking: kids there really miss out on experiencing hardship, which seems to be a core tenant of growing up to be a strong, resilient human.

I went to a private high school where there was "hardship" in the form of academic or extracurricular intensity. A "we are going to make this intense and time consuming to learn perseverance and grit" approach. Honestly, I'm still reflecting on if I find that approach much more beneficial than other options or not.

This seems interesting. Coming from public greek school system (K thru university), the two main things I learned are bubbling to the top despite adversity and learning how to learn (since not all teachers were good). I found these two really great life assets.
