Why does degen need L3? Just for the sake of it? Or is it actually useful?

Very useful. Uber low fees (like fractions of a penny to deploy a suite of contracts). Within the first few days it had a ton of builders on there, and was rivaling top 10 chains on DEX volume. Now it's routinely in the top 3 chains by volume and has some very cool stuff being built.
