Ethereum has transitioned from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS) with Ethereum 2.0 (The Merge), reducing energy consumption by over 99%. Future upgrades, including Proto-Danksharding (EIP-4844) and full Danksharding, will improve transaction speeds and reduce gas fees by introducing data blobs and rollups as key scaling solutions.
