10 months ago I decided to bet on myself and give my studio a shot. There was a calculated risk here. We were planning for a baby which made stepping away from a high paying full-time job and its paternity benefits a heavy decision. The payoff was hopefully substantial enough to cover that loss and most importantly remove any stress of money so I can spend time with my family. 7 months since officially opening the doors and i’ve worked incredibly hard to get to this position. I’ve built a financial runway to last me 2+ years in just 7 months. I can say no to jobs that aren’t right for the studio without fear of financial loss. I can spend time in the day with my son. I’m so grateful to be here, while also aware that i’ve been working hard over my career to master my craft which is how i’ve had this success. You all can get to this point if you work for it, good luck ⚡️

Founders lack time. Time to find, interview, onboard. Time to write specs, explain, review. They need a trusted design partner with context, expertise and intuition.

Simplicity always wins. I've contemplated going full immersive everywhere with http://halaskastudio.com but always come back to simplicity.

As a UX Designer at Google we always worked to achieve Product Excellence. This framework has stuck with me since then and is something I've applied to my work at Immutable, Infinex and now my studio. Here's a high-level view on how I've adapted it: Beautifully functional Simplified user flows that are effortless without sacrificing craft and function. Robust execution Every flow, every build, every update is solid and can stand on it's own. Each small part is done well. Seamless delight The best moments are those that you may not even realise are there. Minimal transitions, unexpectedly quick completion, an orchestration that just 'feels right'. Applying the above ensures everything we deliver meets a high-quality bar, something we're proud of. We've been in the business long enough to know the value of this quality bar and don't plan on sacrificing it any time soon.

One of my favourite design techniques is to explore the edges. Mock up a variation going really far in one direction, and then the opposing one. You'll be able to find that sweet spot in-between where your style fits.
