Degem started off as Thye Loong Goldsmith, which was founded by Managing Director Choong Kai Sun in 1982. Apart from Chong Kai Sun, his siblings Choong Kai Soon, Choong Kai Fatt and Choong Khoi Onn are also directors of the company and they assist Chong Kai Sun in managing the daily operations of the company.
