Since 2020, there's been significant mixing in the H5N1 2.3.4.4b lineage. Meanwhile, the surface proteins HA-NA-MP are evolving together without reassortment, similar to what's seen in human-seasonal viruses. We're convinced this co-evolution is due to strong viral fitness.
