On January 13, local time, the U.S. government announced the launch of new regulations on the control of U.S.-made AI chips, stipulating that U.S. companies sell chips to most countries with a cap on their arithmetic power.
The United States has no restrictions on chip sales to 18 key allies and partners. Most countries beyond that will face a total arithmetic limit of up to about 50,000 AI GPUs per country between 2025 and 2027.The U.S. will also exempt licenses for chip sales with lower collective arithmetic, such as sales to universities and research institutions
