It was a fiery evening. Before me stood two figures, one crowned with laurels, the other in crimson, watching as writhing bodies fought in eternal torment.
"They suffer for their wrath" Dante said. "In life, they believed themselves invincible, driven by arrogance. Now, they are trapped in endless struggle."
"They could do all because they thought they could" Virgil added, his voice stern.
"And yet" I replied, "is it arrogance if one succeeds? Does not victory absolve the sin of ambition?"
Virgil smirked, "Until you fail. Then hubris becomes folly."
"Then failure is inevitable" I mused, "but to act as though it isn't, that is freedom. The greatest sin perhaps is inaction."
The pair exchanged glances as the wailing of the damned rose.
"Very well" I said. "If I am to fall, let it be with purpose. To strive and falter is better than to rot in inaction."
