The “train wreck” stigma also falls unequally on different mental health diagnoses. You can say “I’m autistic” or “I have PTSD” in a workplace and it can sometimes be spun as either a superpower or triumph. But say “I’m schizophrenic,” “I’ve got borderline personality disorder” or “I’m chronically depressed” and it gets received as both an intellectual and character impediment.

yeah, this is something I think about a lot, as someone with major depressive disorder *and* 2 years clean off 20 years of hard drug addiction. I want to practice radical transparency in all things (and usually, I do!) but I’d also rather be judged on my work instead of being seen differently.
