My mom told me that when she was young (in the 70s) that they would slip scary ass shit into 1 frame of a scary movie to really scare you. Like you wouldn't consciously see it, but your unconscious would. 

I wonder if that is true. I've Googled it but can't find confirmation one way or the other.
