Everything is sluggish and slow-moving, even food digestion. Sloths are primarily folivores, feeding mostly on leaves, fruits, and sap from various trees. They have a large and efficient multi-chambered stomach that aids in digesting tough, fibrous leaves. The sloth’s digestion rate is linked to its low metabolism, allowing more leaves to be ingested only once there's enough room in the stomach, which can account for up to 37% of its body mass. Therefore, sloths consume very little food per day as their digestion process can take a very long time, sometimes even days or weeks, to complete. 0 reply
