Events would have to be ephemeral, but what/who/how is lifetime decided? For example, a "hello world" message event. wouldnt need to have as long of a life cycle as a "subscribe" event. A "like" event would need a max life cycle of the remaining life cycle of the event which was liked, etc.

Also, where does the data survive, ipfs? Filecoin/swarm (and if so who pays for the storage fees)?

This is also a split from protocol and UX, which I've said for years needs to be the case. There should be a mechanism which incentivizes UX development - such as a tiny % of protocol fees which can be diverted to 0x specified by UX - and allowing users to choose the solution which delivers the UX they prefer.
