The city of Sukhos, 55 km from Thessaloniki, has an official for the protection of agriculture and the prosperity of products. In this celebration, people wear "Kalpakya" masks. Amazing masks in which a fox tail is used as a sibyl and full of beautiful and colorful ribbons. Their traditional and unique clothes are made of sheep or goat skin and have various decorations and big bells.
The famous Sukhos festival consists of groups of 20 people who dance together to the sound of drums and zorna (a type of wind instrument). Spectators are treated with special drinks. Over the years, this custom gradually took on a Christian form and the bell bearers became a symbol of the soldiers who fought against the Ottoman governments in this region.
