we have a new writeup for the MEV/auction peeps! since launch, @clanker has seen sustained sniper activity. we’d like to start to iterate on chain-specific sniper auctions for the benefit of all our users linked below is our initial design for priority ordered L2s

In this scenario does the first sniper set the starting price for the token or they all still start at a uniform price?

in this initial design, no. the sniper's swap will still just be acting on top of the market setup that the token deployer chooses. the idea is that the sniper, because of this mechanism, will have less capital to deploy overall in snipes and won't have the luxury of being able to recoup the sniping bid

Is there a reason to not have it affect starting price? It seems like an auction scenario could be perfect to determine a reasonable starting price, and if a sniper is setting it they'll likely still be lowballing a decent amount so the first non-bot buyers of a token can still get in at a price they see as cheap

this is an mvp design, it'd be fun for us as a team to iterate on other designs in the future but we can get this simpler design deployed relatively quickly. some projects / tokens want specific starting mcaps, but for the projects who don't care yes that would be a fun avenue to explore!
