"There are 3 kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." The BLS today released a lower than expected PPI. In it, the BLS stated that prices for gasoline decreased 3.6 percent even though prices are up 6.3% more. This is not the first time this kind of "mistake" happens

In the past year, the BLS has released strong payroll numbers and later on has revised it lower for EVERY single month it has released the data. The latest payroll numbers are a 6-sigma event based on the forecasts.

It's hedonistic adjustments. Cars are getting more efficient and the mpg, getting better. Hence even with a real 6.3% increase in gas prices, the "savings" you made driving more efficient cars is 3.6%. They do the same for computer processing power too, charlatans.

It's YoY not MoM, so -3.6 % for gasoline seems quite accurate
