I’ll concede politics is the main reason for its growth and maybe that’s bullish for FC long term. There are many politically center or apolitical people who don’t like the general atmosphere of twitter and might like it here.

There is rarely a single reason behind any decision someone makes. I’ve been interested in decentralized social since 2017. For people who recognize wealth is power and are tired of signing up for a new social app every couple years, there is deeper ideological interest in bluesky beyond US politics imo.

For me decentralization and opposing grotesque wealth inequality goes hand in hand. The only reason I’m here rather than bluesky is I like crypto and benefited from being early.

They might not get excited about “decentralization” specifically but i think nearly everyone understands it’s really problematic for single individuals to have immense unchecked power over social networks that we’re spending more & more of our time on.

fwiw I still think farcaster has the best chance of making crypto haters understand what the tech is useful for beyond speculation. 2025 seems like the year it could shift.

The reason I’m thinking about this is this past weekend I was with a friend who held a gargantuan amount of Bitcoin in 2011. He had heard of FC but didn’t know what it was. He has a big following on other platforms so isn’t really incentivized to look for an alternative but that still seems like a fail. Everyone into crypto should know what FC is by now, and what problem it’s trying to solve.
