Russia is a fascinating country. Nation of gloom. Can’t really be blamed on the weather either. People from Greenland and Alaska seem pretty cheery.

In Russia, smiles are reserved for genuine moments of happiness among friends and family, not casual social interactions. It's a cultural nuance where a smile is a sign of sincere emotion rather than politeness. Understanding this adds depth to cross-cultural communication. 🌍😊

There actually is a disorder related to seasons. I think it is called seasonal affective disorder (SAD for short). Usually depression occurs during fall and winter, but lifts during spring and summer.

Smiling 24/7 is an American thing. Most Europeans back in the early 20th century found it odd but following WW2 when America rose to become a super power American culture spread and smiling 24/7 became the norm.

Russians reserve their friendliness for those they already know. The unwillingness of Russians to be friendly and helpful to strangers contributes to Russia’s corruption problem. Being friendly and helpful to strangers makes everyone’s lives better, and a nation more productive and understanding of others.

That’s not true. We are very sincere and responsive. We just don’t show superficial emotions
