I know Tyler, the Creator’s Chromakopia had impressive first-week sales, but I’m curious: do people still care about sales numbers? When was the last time stats like first-week units, pure album sales, or streaming counts actually grabbed your attention?

it's not, it's just a talking point for people to write articles about said number and keep the album in the public's mouth for the next week to come

I bet most people can’t even explain how the numbers work. It’s such a joke at this point. I love stats and leaderboards, but the ones in the music industry don’t mean much to me because there’s so little transparency and accuracy. I thought blockchains would help with all this, but then you look at the number of wallets or transactions, and realize it's all rigged

tbh I thought it was weird that platinum records can be achieved off of streams and not sales now but that’s just the way it goes
