The traditional concept of an album is evolving. Do you like where things are headed? Why or why not? https://www.businessinsider.com/spotify-tiktok-taylor-swift-beyonce-muse-streaming-quantity-over-quality-2024-7

i'm sure there are exceptions, but the majority of young people i've spoken to about albums do not listen to albums, they just listen to songs they like or playlists listening to albums, and bands that write albums as albums, will likely become more niche over time

This makes me wonder if Taylor Swift's fan base is actually listening to all the albums she's been releasing, or if they are just selecting their favorite songs and only listening to those. What do you think is causing young people not to listen to full albums? Is it due to a short attention span, or because the albums only have 2-3 really good songs and the rest are fillers? I’m also curious if young people are listening to playlists they create themselves or those made by the Spotify team or algorithms.

yeah, i think all of the above - spotify playlists - people discovering songs just from tiktok or instagram shorts - more artists than quality producers - new artists trying out a lot of new styles, so albums not cohesive one hit wonders are nothing new, but music consumption has changed from a single to a single line in a song in the background of a video
