2. At the protocol level, what will you actually own/control as a channel owner? If I can't control who can associate themselves with my channel at the protocol level, do I really own my community?

All that matters is what clients show. If you have a public website, you can't stop people from visiting to it or linking to it.

1) This is true, but no one can add content to your site without your permission. Anyone can cast in your FC channel, even if it’s really bad content, and you can’t do anything about it, you trust that clients and hubs will clean it up.
