With coinbase and lens rolling out @xmtp messaging, it would be really amazing for @farcaster to embrace as well — unification of ethereum! Message anyone from/to ENS <> CB.ID <> Farcaster <> Lens <> 0x <> ENS <> CB.ID <> Farcaster <> Lens <> 0x

How would we deal with unwanted messages/spam? Twitter DM spam is one of the most annoying things. On the Converse @xmtp app that I’ve tested, anyone can msg you if they know your ENS or wallet address.

Solvable both at protocol (xmtp) level and client level Easiest is known senders vs unknown

So only allow those on a whitelist to msg you? All other msgs go into secondary inbox that you don’t need to know/care about unless you manually go in there?

There will be more that'll be possible at the protocol level—such as a means for providing explicit consent to be messaged. And at the client level there will be tons of opportunity to help with filtering and adding relevant context to senders—imagine what onchain data can lend itself to there.
