Caryatids are sculpted female figures serving as architectural supports, taking the place of columns or pillars. The most famous examples are the Caryatids of the Erechtheion, a temple on the Acropolis of Athens, constructed between 421 and 406 BCE. These elegant statues stand on the southern porch of the temple, known as the Porch of the Maidens. Each Caryatid is depicted in a graceful pose, draped in finely detailed robes, with one leg slightly bent, creating a sense of movement and lifelike presence. The Caryatids symbolize the blend of architectural innovation and artistic beauty characteristic of Classical Greek art.
