My comment was half sarcastic — the environmental argument of creating an artificial reef is too often used as an excuse to scuttle ships and avoid paying for proper decommissioning. I’ve also dived wrecks teeming with marine life, but there are better ways to build reefs designed specifically for the local type of fauna, and without the environmental hazards that old ships sometimes pose, like toxic insulation materials
