But I guess that’s different than staking.

Before you stake your own token, you should know...

When you stake that token, you're "staking your claim" to the ham that comes from that token. So...

If you want other people to get as much ham as they can from you, if you stake your own token, you're "consuming your own ham" while other people are being rewarded less than they could be.

What's the goal?

Do you want to earn as much ham as you can? 
Then you should stake someone else's tokens - preferably someone who's dedicated 100% of daily tip allocation AND 100% of ham earned *cough *cough $geaux *cough. 

Or, do you want to increase the value of your own token so that other people will want to buy and stake your own token?
Then you should lock as many of your own tokens as you can and set your ham distribution as high as you're comfortable with.
