Is it illegal to give away money to followers?

What if I said I would give 1 ETH to a randomly chosen follower this Friday? 

Screw it, let's do it. I'm gonna give someone 1 ETH on Friday.

I was living in my car on and off for a year and a half until it was stolen last September, along with my laptop.

So, I'd buy a used laptop and save the rest for a deposit on an apartment.

That way I could make art again and escape the debt trap of living week-to-week in hotels while I get back on my feet.

My phone was also cut off recently, so I could also afford to get it reconnected, which would make me feel a lot safer since I have to walk everywhere in downtown Seattle now.

Honestly, the biggest benefit would just be giving my mom and my business partner some peace of mind since they've been helping keep me afloat.
