Trees Can Fight Back Believe it or not, if there’s a threat, trees don’t always allow it to harm them. In fact, sometimes, trees fight back. While they won’t be throwing apples like in the Wizard of Oz, trees have their own subtle yet effective methods of defense. When faced with an insect attack, trees can respond by flooding their leaves with chemicals known as phenolics. These compounds act as deterrents, making the tree less appealing to pests. Additionally, trees possess protective structures and processes akin to an immune system, which help safeguard them against diseases. Through these natural defenses, trees are able to protect themselves and maintain their health.
