New banner & featured artwork by Studio Ghibli ✨ Hayao Miyazaki and the impact he and Studio Ghibli have had on the world over the years is truly unprecedented. Though not without controversy, GPT's new image model has led to the "Ghiblification" of the internet today While Miyazaki has been quoted speaking against AI and computers in general, I find it hard to believe that this phenomenon we're witnessing is a net-negative To me, it's a testament to the resonance he and his team have created, an iconic aesthetic and series of films imbued with rich nostalgia, beauty, child-like wonder and memories of first-watches. If you haven't watched any of his films yet, I highly recommend you fix that If you've gotten this far, share your favorite below — and if you don't have access to the new GPT and would like a "Ghiblified" PFP, let me know! I would never tell anyone how they should feel and I don't think anyone is able to do so on behalf of Miyazaki in this case He's welcome to say so himself, or not What I can say is that I'm sure thousands if not millions of people are watching his films and celebrating his legacy today, and that likely as many are discovering his work because of AI And I know I have the choice to fixate on "the bad", which is always just my assumptions or assessments and rarely if ever the literal truth And I do not choose that, now or ever Especially when the likelihood of it making a difference is zero Not really so much because "it's not worth it" But because my time isn't And the number of people ready to jump to point out the negatives (ie. their perceptions of them) will always outweigh the number of those celebrating their perceptions of the good I choose that every time I can

I believe that respect comes before any need to celebrate something with cursory knowledge of the facts. 🤷🏻

Want to be clear that I have an incredible amount of respect for you. There is nobody here who markets well while consistently and genuinely supports artists. Only once in a rare blue moon do I feel like the marketing side of your brain gets ahead of itself and passes by the artist perspective. All we know of how he feels is what he’s said. To me that matters more than anything. My brain does go to the negative often. Mostly because arts/tech doesn’t often work out well for artists. I think it’s the spontaneous enthusiasm without a vibe we’re pausing to think about it I tend argue with people I know care because why bother with people who don’t? Anyway, carry on. Just my 2 cents
