A personal note on this: I spent the last year of my blogging career focusing on exploring from first principles the fundamentals of blockchains. It hasn't gotten much attention, but I still believe it's by far the most impactful writing on my old blog. Blockchains are only useful for strict global consensus, with the key overarching usecase being objective accounting. For everything else, there are far more efficient and more decentralized options available/to be invented. Being dogmatic about only using blockchains has actively hindered growth for years - to expand the onchain economy we must adopt & invent better solutions, even if its not technically "onchain".

In February 2014, an Ethereum logo contest was held on the Ethereum community forum. The current symbol is based on the submission by user skybuilder, who commented on it with an elegant coordination metaphor: "the lozenge shape represents the collaboration between triangles in order to evolve into the three-dimensional world"

People complaining about Ethereum fee revenue being down are missing the forest for the trees. If Ethereum didn't scale - if blobs weren't introduced - then lots of activity that was on Ethereum would've moved to other layer 1's instead of layer 2's. This would've been a *much* worse outcome for Ethereum than losing fee revenue. Yes, there is currently an imbalance between how much money rollups sequencers make and how much revenue Ethereum L1 collects from rollups, but this is imo a temporary phenomenon. Ethereum is in its hyper-scaling phase and now has excess blockspace with not enough demand to fill it (yet). If you believe in the decentralised future enabled by Ethereum like I do, then you believe that Ethereum is going to grow 1000x and more from here - this is what the focus should be on; not on how much rent Ethereum can extract from the small existing pool of users.

Following the rabbit hole: data comes from "dare", which means "to give" as in "something given as true". To adopt a pluralized form of data, you could imagine information as an uncountable blob, but when someone grabs a drop of it and gives it to you, it becomes countable data 😂

Thanks a lot for sharing this article, I love deep dives on a very specific topic :) It never occurred to me that considering data a synonym of information can be limiting in a mathematical context, I now understand why the plural is considered to be better for scientific publications.
