Yesterday, pet3rpan_ brought up that solana is more "operationally competent" than Ethereum, and I thought that was an interesting framing to the problem

So I asked the question "but how exactly?"

Serious question: in what ways is Solana more "operationally competent" than Ethereum?

(Like specific ways, not "bc SOL/ETH is up")

@fubuloubu Ethereum has been focused on problems that are too remote from users' concerns.
Ethereum does a lot of weird technical stuff (e.g. EIP-7623, EIP-7251 or EIP-7002)
Solana mostly does IBRL and cheaper validators (e.g. SIMD-0268, SIMD-0266 or SIMD-0257)

This is actually consistent my experience as a user, enthusiast, app developer, and participant in language/devtooling design:
I feel like most hard forks don't end up with something that benefits me

At worst, the changes feel arbitrary or like some core devs' science project, like they are concerns so far from the actual needs of everyone but core devs

That culture of "total academic freedom" for how the network gets maintained has gotta change

At best the changes feel like they are maintaining ideological properties (possible for hobbyists to run nodes, small validators to participate, etc), which are good properties to maintain (if only they feel a little remote from my real concerns)

A doodler and computerer. I like permissive/permissionless open source, smart contracts, p2p systems, room-scale VR, and NixOS.
