Wouldn’t bet against OpenAI spectacularly imploding as a company eventually. So much emotion and drama going on there it actually seems very plausible

And who will mop up the pieces? Microsoft? Or will NVIDIA and Apple give them some competition for it? The place may hang together once there’s a full turnover from the non-profit OGs to the for-profit newcomers.

Not sure if it will be necessary to pick up the pieces tbh. Microsoft would probably absorb what’s left of it, but in the long run I see OAI’s current moats (brand, compute, and SOTA frontier models) all being commoditised

It’s true they have nothing unique anymore. OpenAI should have stuck to research instead of trying to make consumer products so soon, IMHO. There likely isn’t enough market there. For anyone.

They are just going to get rugged by Apple, Google, and Microsoft because they have native OS-level distribution and OAI doesn’t Probably explains why Altman is investing in consumer hardware with Jony Ive
