Disinformation is a problem that social networks have to manage, no matter if it is centralized or decentralized. What is Farcaster's vision on this?

There has always been disinformation and minformation, but social media and AI have given an unprecedented boost to this significant problem for society.

There are various theories, one of which defends the value neutrality of science. This theory is based on the distinction between facts and values and asserts that scientific theories aim to describe and explain facts, rather than making value judgments about them.

Because science, by default and based on its methodology, is open to studying contradictory evidence. This openness invites us to trust it. Additionally, the progression of science can be traced. We can observe how it evolves and how, in line with this idea of continuous evaluation and improvement, even theories later recognized as false are fundamental reference points that lead to the new theories that replace them.

I love reading classics, but how cool is it to read an author from your time writing about the connections between those classics, other authors, and recent topics?

"How do social networks decide which users to verify or ban? How do search engines decide how to rank websites?" Written 6 years ago by @cdixon.eth, does not get old: https://a16zcrypto.com/posts/article/control-software-powers-internet/

It seems that there is a war between tech and humanities. I can't help but believe that most of us think that one is useful and the other is not. It is worth reminding ourselves how important the influence of technology is on how we live and interact.

7 days streak in /pscience. Funny to say the least. Here I am, criticizing these dynamics and advocating for fewer casts/posts and longer-form reflections, while still playing the game. F*cking human nature đź«Ł

Although this debate seems new, it is worth noting that it goes back as far as Plato and Aristotle.

For my next paper I am analysing where we stand in the pendulum technocracy / democracy. In some countries (like Spain, where I am from), or the US, we would definitly hand the keys of our democracy to the guys running OpenAI and the likes. No good.

“If you love something set it free, but don't be surprised if it comes back with herpes.” Chuck Palahniuk OpenAI released its first ever report on how its AI tools are being used for disinformation campaigns originating from Russia, China, Israel and Iran. OpenAI has built its own AI-powered tools to identify this situations. A reminder of how difficult is to find a good enough system for any group of people trying to live together. Social networks are a brutal challenge. Kudos to @a16zcrypto . Tech guys usually think they know everything, inviting constitutional law specialists to anything named web3 is disruptive to say the least. https://open.spotify.com/episode/3zEFhPDPLL7RpVCEgW02W3?si=rklury-ISfOghW6P4Egyvw

The current dynamics of social networks, where we are incentivized to produce a lot short form content + the arrival of AI generated content, will end up exhausting us, hopefully. We will look for the old forums, where we cannot recast, where we will need to write a minimum of characters to have a proper debate…
