A builder may not mean you are Satoshi Nakamoto. Maybe you are David Chaum, who proposed eCash in the 1980s. Perhaps in 1996, you released e-gold or perhaps you are like Nick Szabo a couple years later with Bit Gold... or Adam Back with HashCash. Just because you have failed doesn't mean you can't leave a legacy.
