Rural Rapid Response Network: Our first livestream meetings on X (@ kiangaellis Tuesday & Thurs 1pm EST) focus on information and learning embedded in The Maine Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission interim report published in November 2024. The commission was created by Executive Order of Governor Janet Mills on May 21, 2024. It is charged with reviewing and evaluating Maine’s response to the recent storms, identifying crucial areas for near-term investment and policy needs, and developing the state’s first long-term infrastructure plan to ensure that Maine is ready for the harsh storms ahead. https://www.maine.gov/future/infrastructure-commission

Rural Rapid Response Network: KEP25 (Kianga Ellis Projects 25) is my latest project and it’s a biggie! A regional network of art spaces from Downeast, Maine to the Catskills, New York that double as community nodes or “stations” in times of local need. I am holding livestream meetings (initially on X but expanding to other platforms- YouTube, Rumble, Instagram) twice a week. Here’s a clip from the first meeting on January 16, 2025! While the immediate objective is to activate the RRRN over the course of 2025 with a few spaces across the Northeast, there’s an opportunity for us to also think about long term solutions for our states’ chronic infrastructure problems. What do we see as key drivers of flourishing over the next 25 years? How do our communities look in 2050 if our wildest dreams came true? We can learn so much from the Shakers! Original community still active in New Gloucester, Maine since 1783. The only one in the world. Museum, archives, working farm, worship services and public education programs.
