Gilles, a Jew who was taken prisoner by the Germans and thrown into a concentration camp, lied that he was a Persian, not a Jew. Klaus Koch, the camp director·, wanted to learn Persian and asked Gilles to be his language teacher. Gilles, who did not know Persian, invented a new language by referring to himself as Reza and using the names of the camp inmates as roots.
