Has anyone figured out a system of active highlighting or note taking while reading books? I find myself on either end of the spectrum - either I'm only reading or I'm taking way too many notes that aren't even helpful. I'm trying to get better at identifying insights that I think are good and noting down q's I have

1: use pen and underline horizontally for important things, and add vertical lines at the start and end of *really* important things. so you end up with 2 tiers of highlights. underline only what *really* resonates and draw a star on the outer side of the page for easy retrieval.

2: avoid writing notes on the book itself since you'll prob lose/forget them. Opt for a digital note taker like reflect.notes where you can backlink subjects and compile notes. It syncs with Kindle Also check out Nat Eliason's tiktok ( I strive to read like that dude) or try reading Building a Second Brain.
