I have had so many people showing me proudly (assuming I'd be honored) that they used my art on their wallpapers. Artists have the worse financial recognition for the value added to society.

Assuming they’d not buy it, would you rather they right click save and use it or not at all?

right click save... at least it keeps the art in their minds. Eventually, people come back for something. I've had clients who started with notecards, then prints until they could afford an original.
Not getting paid is far from ideal, but exposure eventually helps, and if it wasn't for the need to pay bills, we actually do love to have our art to be admired. The only problem is most people assume artists don't need to get $
A very very very twisted historical mindset that has yet to be fixed.
If my bills were taken care of, I'd focus on creating art for the love of art only and for the good impact it can create in the world.
