I had a coach (a good one, played in LaLiga) that used to say something when any player (like me) tried to do a "filigrana" instead a basic movement like a pass

it means something like "first things first", "a house cannot be built from the roof", "you better must learn, young padawan" and it applies to everything

don't overcomplicate it, start with the basic, even ugly, master it, then, go pro, it would be beautiful because it will be yours (this part is mine)
