Been seeing more articles about boomer becoming homeless at record rates due to rising CoL and people not saving for retirement. Super depressing to think about. At that age, the "work harder" argument kinda goes out the window.

They were sold the narrative that social security would take care of them - my folks have zero retirement funds essentially.

I think that's how many might've interpreted it, but it was initially sold as one part of a "three legged stool" for retirement that was supposed to be made up of: Social Security, pension (what a concept), and private savings.
