“Creative endeavors often begin with paper. The novelist, the playwright, and the poet; the composer; the painter and sculptor—each begins with a blank sheet of paper. During the COVID lockdown, I have also turned to paper for inspiration. In the process, I have come to sense that paper has its own life force—its own special physics—that resists complete manipulation, even while remaining malleable. Paper stacks and flattened books insist on unfolding in their own ways, and crumpled bundles of paper insist on their own projectile constructions—invariably more complex than anyone could ever have designed.” —Lynn Savarese
