Brigitte Carnochan
“People tend to look at photographs too quickly, superficially. They make assumptions about what is familiar. I want to slow the viewer down so that they can appreciate the beauty of the world around them in more detail.
I printed these photographs on one of the oldest photographic materials, platinum, for its extravagant long tonal range, depth and permanence. The warm blacks, greys and browns of the photographs further abstract the image, making it even easier to recompose the parts and imagine the whole. My subjects are taken from my own garden - I can walk right into my garden to sit among the roses, peonies, grasses, dogwoods, rhododendrons and irises while waiting for the fifteen-minute platinum exposure - a meditation that is calming and inspiring.” 6 replies
