Nikola Tesla; Serbian Cyrillic; July 10 [1856 - January 7, 1943) Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer and futurist. He is known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) power supply system.

Tesla's work fell into relative obscurity following his death, until 1960, when the General Conference on Weights and Measures named the International System of Units (SI) measurement of magnetic flux density the tesla in his honor

He left an indelible mark on the fields of electrical engineering and technology, shaping the modern world in profound ways

Born in present-day Croatia, Nikola Tesla came to the United States in 1884 and briefly worked with Thomas Edison.  He sold several patents, including those for his AC machines, to George Westinghouse.
