now is objectively a bad time to buy a house right?

or is there a thoughtful, non-boomer case for still investing in real estate?

I was about to buy an apartment 10y ago in the big city for the same price of building a large house in the satellite town. Decided to build the house and live my dream earlier. Had kids, a dog, pool, everything. It was perfect for the cycle and turned out to be a great investment. Put it up for rent and now I live in half the size apartment in a different country
